Strengthening Environments for Civic Participation and Public Engagement

Exchange alumni from 23 countries in East Asia and the Pacific gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to share best practices and challenges in strengthening civil society organizations, fostering a more engaged citizenry, promoting transparent and accountable institutions, and encouraging more inclusive and peaceful societies. Alumni participants represented decision-makers and key influencers in fields such as media, non-governmental organizations, citizen advocacy, law, social entrepreneurship, and other sectors that support increased civic participation and public engagement. Through a variety of expert speakers and trainings, alumni-led panels, small group discussions, networking, and site visits, alumni strategized solutions on how to create better conditions for civic participation and public engagement in the region.
